In its 20th year, the self-funded small-group operator follows its 2025 Gold for Service with the category’s top honor
TAMPA, Fla., Oct. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Culture Discovery Vacations (CDV) has won the 2026 Travel Weekly Magellan Gold Award in the Tour Operator Overall category. Gold is the program’s highest honor. The award follows CDV’s 2025 Gold for Tour Operator Service and lands in the company’s 20th year.
The numbers moved with it. When CDV entered for Service, 31% of its guests were repeat guests. In 2026, that figure is 42%. Across all bookings, 78% of guests are returning or were referred by someone who has traveled with CDV.
CDV runs its own teams in Italy, Portugal, Spain, Croatia, Argentina and Uruguay. It takes zero vendor commissions, works only with locally owned family partners, caps groups at 12 to 18 guests, and includes every meal, wine and excursion in the price. It never cancels a departure for low numbers. A 19-year operating study CDV published on SSRN in January 2026 shows that more than 70% of every guest dollar stays in the local economy.
Demand followed. Since its 2025 win, CDV opened four new destinations: Argentina, Uruguay, Catalonia and Madeira. All four sold out before the company could announce them, with no ads or email campaigns.
