Volvo Trucks receives record order for gas-powered trucks

Volvo Trucks has received its largest order to date for gas-powered trucks, with the purchase of 500 Volvo FH Aero trucks by German transport company Reinert Logistics.

GOTHENBURG, Sweden, Sept. 24, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Volvo’s gas-powered trucks are growing in volume as more markets are embracing alternative fuels that enable significant reduction of CO2 emissions. 2025 was Volvo’s best sales year ever for trucks powered by gas, and 2026 will be even stronger, thanks to leading products and the favorable supply and cost of fuel.

At the recent IAA Transportation fair in Hanover, Germany, transport company Reinert Logistics signed a contract for 500 Volvo FH Aero gas-powered trucks, with deliveries starting in 2027. The order came after operating a first fleet of 50 Volvo gas-powered trucks, where the positive experience in everyday use and fuel prices influenced the logistics company’s purchasing decision.

“We recognized early on that bio-LNG was the right solution for us. Being able to operate our trucks with a locally produced fuel made from manure, organic waste or biogenic residues is simply brilliant. Our experience in daily operations has reinforced our determination to continue consistently along this path – also because Volvo Trucks has an excellent service network for gas-powered trucks,” said René Reinert, Founder and Owner of the company, at the contract signing in Hannover.

In total, Volvo Trucks has delivered more than 10,000 gas-powered trucks globally. Volvo’s gas engines are offered in the heavy-duty Volvo FM, FH, and FH Aero ranges, and can run on conventional LNG (Liquified Natural Gas) or bio-LNG, a non-fossil gas derived from organic waste.

Up to 1,000 km* on one tank
Volvo’s gas-powered trucks can travel up to 1,000 kilometers on a single tank, making them well suited for long-haul and regional distribution, as well as construction operations. They are a practical alternative to other low-emission solutions at a time when transport operators and freight buyers are seeking more sustainable options.

In several countries, there is already a well-developed network of gas filling stations and rapidly expanding access to bio-LNG. Some examples are Germany, Norway, Finland, and Sweden where all gas filling stations now offer the fuel. According to data from the German gas and hydrogen association, bio-LNG accounted for around 98.5 percent of the fuel sold at German LNG filling stations in 2025**.

This enables many users to achieve CO2 reductions of up to 100% (Well to Wheel). In markets where there is public support for renewable fuels and low emissions, and tax incentives are available, bio-LNG becomes a highly cost-effective alternative.

Volvo Trucks’ strategy for decarbonization includes battery-electric, fuel-cell electric, and combustion engines using renewable fuels.
