Steve Bennett: The entrepreneur who transformed his own health and made it his mission to save the nation from obesity
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

For more than 25 years, Steve Bennett struggled with his weight.

Like many people, he tried different diets, followed conventional advice and hoped each new attempt would finally be the one that worked. But despite his best efforts, he found himself caught in the same cycle, making progress before eventually ending up back where he started.

Everything changed as he approached his 50th birthday.

The birth of his youngest son made Steve look at life differently. He wanted to be healthier, have more energy and, most importantly, be there to watch his children grow up.

Steve said: “When my youngest son was born, I was obese, unhealthy and turning 50. Like all parents, I wanted the best for my children and to be around to see them grow up.”

For Steve, it marked the beginning of a completely different chapter.

Rather than searching for another quick fix, he became determined to understand why so many diets failed and why obesity and chronic illness were becoming increasingly common. What started as a personal search for answers soon developed into almost a decade of research into nutrition, food and metabolic health. The more he learned, the more he questioned.

He said: “The more I studied, the more I got frustrated. For over 25 years, I’d struggled with my weight despite believing I was doing the right things.”

Steve’s own transformation changed far more than his health. It changed the direction of his life.

After experiencing first-hand how difficult it can be to navigate conflicting health advice, he became passionate about helping others better understand the relationship between food, lifestyle and long-term health. He qualified as a PCI health coach, combining his personal experience with professional training to support people looking to improve their health.

Steve is passionate about helping prevent and reverse type 2 diabetes and metabolic syndrome across the UK, a mission that became deeply personal after both of his parents were diagnosed with the conditions.

Today, Steve is the founder of Clubwell, a community dedicated to helping people understand nutrition and improve their health through practical, sustainable life changes.

Over the past decade, Steve has become an outspoken advocate for tackling the UK’s obesity crisis and raising awareness of the impact of ultra-processed foods. He champions a fibre-first approach to eating and encourages people to adopt a fibre-first approach while understanding the impact of ultra-processed foods on long-term health.

His work has also led him to write several books, including ‘Primal Cure: Avoid Being a Sick Statistic’, ‘Primal Gourmet’, ‘Fat & Furious’, ‘Fibre First’, and ‘Sugar Tolerance’, each exploring different aspects of nutrition, metabolic health and sustainable lifestyle change.

Steve’s mission now extends beyond education alone. He is collaborating with the Food, Diet, and Obesity Committee at the House of Lords to support discussions around better food labelling and marketing regulations, believing that clearer information can help customers make better-informed decisions about the food they buy.

He said: “The current decline in our nation’s health makes me frustrated, furious and fired up to make a change.”

Although Steve has built businesses worth over 200 million pounds, he believes his greatest achievement isn’t measured by commercial success.

For him, it’s seeing people regain their confidence, improve their health and realise that meaningful change is possible, whatever their age or starting point.

Steve sees his own journey as proof that it is never too late to change directions in life.

After spending more than 25 years living with obesity, he chose to rewrite his own story. Through Clubwell, his goal is to help others do exactly the same by giving them the knowledge and confidence to take control of their own health.
