FRANKLIN, Tenn., Oct. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA) today reported third-quarter 2026 sales of 18,543 vehicles, with continued strength across the brand’s SUV lineup helping offset the planned discontinuation of the Mirage and Mirage G4.

The 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback EV

Combined SUV sales increased nearly 10% during the quarter, led by Outlander, which continued to set the pace for MMNA with Q3 sales of 9,311 vehicles, up 27.1% compared with the third quarter of 2025. Outlander Sport also delivered strong growth, with quarterly sales of 5,902 vehicles, up 91.6% year over year, while year-to-date sales increased more than 76%. Eclipse Cross continued its positive performance as well, with year-to-date sales up 14.5% to 14,135 vehicles.

Overall MMNA sales declined 5.6% in the third quarter, primarily reflecting the planned discontinuation of the Mirage and Mirage G4, which accounted for more than 14% of MMNA’s sales in the third quarter of 2025.

Strength across Mitsubishi Motors’ SUV portfolio replaced more than 60% of the prior-year Mirage volume. Outlander benefited from the introduction of a more affordable LE trim and the distinctive Black Edition, while Outlander Sport growth was supported by increased availability of the entry level S trim and the September reintroduction of the 2WD variant. Eclipse Cross also continued to contribute to the brand’s SUV momentum.

With three SUVs starting below $30,000 MSRP, Mitsubishi Motors continues to deliver compelling value to customers through “America’s Best-Backed Vehicles,” supported by a 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, five-year/unlimited-mile roadside assistance and two years/30,000 miles of included maintenance.

Looking ahead, MMNA continues to advance the comprehensive product renewal outlined in its recently updated Momentum 2030 midterm business plan. The next phase includes the refreshed Outlander Plug-in Hybrid and the launch of an all-new nameplate, the Eclipse Sportback EV, Mitsubishi Motors’ first fully battery-electric vehicle since the i-MiEV. These introductions will be followed by a rugged, off-road-focused Outlander variant early next year.

News and Notes

  • Green Car Journal recently named the 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback as their 2027 Green SUV of the Year. The Green SUV of the Year Award recognizes sport-utility vehicles that excel in environmental performance while offering style and versatility. Mitsubishi has dominated the awards in recent years, with Outlander Plug-in Hybrid winning GCJ‘s Family Green Car of the Year award in 2019, and then for four consecutive years from 2023 – 2026, the last one sharing the 2026 award with the Outlander mild-hybrid.
  • Earlier this quarter, Mitsubishi Motors updated its Momentum 2030 business plan, which includes a comprehensive product renewal strategy and expansion into new vehicle segments. In addition to the recently debuted 2027 Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback electric vehicle, the updated plan includes a rugged, off-road-focused Outlander variant launching in the first quarter of 2027 and the brand’s intent to launch a midsize pickup through collaboration with Nissan.
  • MMNA celebrated the grand opening of its first U.S. Gallery dealership in the greater-Nashville area in July, marking the national debut of an innovative retail concept designed to bring the brand closer to customers in high-traffic shopping destinations. The opening represents a significant retail milestone delivered under the company’s Momentum 2030 business plan, which, in addition to product line renewal calls for modernizing the brand’s retail sales model and expansion of MMNA’s dealer-partner network.
  • Another example of the Momentum 2030 business plan in action is MMNA’s continued expansion of its U.S. distribution network, including a recently announced automotive logistics collaboration with AMPORTS and Port Freeport on the Texas Gulf Coast. The partnership ensures new Mitsubishi vehicles are delivered to the company’s dealer partners in the critical Gulf and Midwest areas faster, more efficiently and with an eye toward long-term cost effectiveness.
