With humor and honesty, “Been There, Dated That” explores dating burnout, bad matches, matchmaking pressures and the resilience needed to keep searching for the right person

NEW YORK, Aug. 24, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Goldy Krantz offers readers a candid, humorous look at the highs, lows and emotional exhaustion of Orthodox Jewish dating in her book “Been There, Dated That,” a collection drawn from her longtime “Dating Today” column.

“Been There, Dated That” By Goldy Krantz

The book explores the world of blind shidduch dating through Krantz’s own experiences, reader letters and her direct, conversational responses to singles navigating frustrating setups, bad dates, dating burnout, matchmaking pressures and the search for a zivug, or soulmate. Krantz, who began dating at 19 and married at 32, writes from personal experience after spending 12 years in the dating world before eventually marrying the 195th man she dated.

“Dating in the Jewish world can be brutal,” Krantz writes. “I always thought of it as survival of the fittest or a marathon. I try to pass down wisdom from my experiences, and from the many mistakes that I made along the way, to others through my dating column, and if my readers and I share a laugh or two, all the better.”

The book also gives readers outside the Orthodox Jewish community a glimpse into a dating culture shaped by matchmakers, family involvement, social expectations, dating résumés and the pressures that can come with searching for a spouse in a close-knit religious community. Krantz is careful to note that her book does not represent every Orthodox Jewish dating experience, but instead reflects her own journey and the experiences of readers who have written to her.

Across chapters such as “Five Commonsense Dating Tips,” “Bad Date Part Deux,” “Cheap Date or Smart Spender?,” “Ghosted” and “Setting and Respecting Boundaries,” Krantz addresses both the absurd and painful parts of dating. Her advice ranges from practical reminders about emotional readiness and communication to firm encouragement for singles to protect their self-worth, set boundaries and avoid letting rejection define them.

While many of the book’s stories are funny, Krantz also acknowledges the deeper discouragement that can come with years of searching, waiting and being misunderstood. Her central message is one of resilience: Bad dates may be unavoidable, but they do not have to steal a person’s confidence, humor or hope.

With warmth, blunt honesty and a strong sense of faith, “Been There, Dated That” encourages readers to laugh at the dating disasters, learn from the disappointments and remember that every difficult date may still be one step closer to finding the right person.
