BIRKIRKARA, Malta, Oct. 8, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — New data from Casinomeister’s Player Arbitration service, covering 5,000+ disputes since 2016, shows how long players wait when a casino won’t pay their winnings, and the answer is anywhere from 45 minutes to 20 months.
Casinomeister’s report found that:
- Casino payout disputes have taken anywhere from 45 minutes to 20 months to resolve, with the casino largely deciding the timeline.
- Casinomeister has resolved over 5,000 disputes and recovered more than €8 million for players since 2016.
- Disputes reaching Casinomeister’s Player Arbitration (PAB) service rose 174%, from 255 in 2016 to 699 in 2025.
- The money recovered for players rose 567% over the same period, from €225,000 to €1.5 million a year.
- Fake complaints, many of them generated with AI chatbots, have increased more than tenfold, slowing down help for genuine players.
Casino payout disputes can take anywhere from 45 minutes to 20 months, data shows
A new report from Casinomeister, based on eleven years of data from its Player Arbitration (PAB) service, has revealed that players who are owed winnings can wait anywhere from under an hour to nearly two years to be paid.
By 2028, players worldwide are projected to lose nearly $700 billion a year to gambling, according to the Lancet Public Health Commission. Behind that figure, Casinomeister’s data highlights a quieter problem: players who win legitimately, but whose winnings the casino refuses or delays paying.
Casinomeister was the first to offer third-party dispute resolution for online casino players and, over the last eleven years alone, has resolved more than 5,000 disputes and recovered over €8 million for players.
Disputes are up 174%, but the money involved is up 567%
The number of cases reaching PAB grew from 255 in 2016 to 699 in 2025, an increase of 174%. Over the same period, the amount recovered for players rose from €225,000 to €1.5 million, an increase of roughly 567%.
In other words, players aren’t just bringing more disputes, there is more money at stake in each one. The average amount recovered per case rose from around €880 in 2016 to around €2,150 in 2025.
Between 2021 and 2025 alone, cases rose by 50% (465 to 699), while the amount recovered for players doubled (€750,000 to €1,500,835).
Casinomeister PAB Cases and Recoveries By Year:
The data shows a visible dip in 2018, which coincides with Malta’s regulator, the MGA, rolling out its own designated alternative dispute resolution (ADR) programme. Many players with complaints against MGA-licensed casinos tried the official route first, with a good number later returning to Casinomeister and other third parties.

*2018–2020 are low-end estimates. These years fell during our migration to a new case-management system, when official figures weren’t recorded. We reconstructed them manually and erred on the conservative side, so the true totals were likely higher. **2026 figures are year-to-date
The casino decides the timeline
The fastest dispute Casinomeister has ever resolved took roughly 45 minutes, made possible by a twenty-year relationship with a reputable operator whose management verified and paid the legitimate complaint the same day.
The longest took 20 months. The player was owed every cent, but the casino stuck to the withdrawal limits in its terms, capped at $10,000 a month and dropping to $5,000 once a balance reached ten times total deposits. In practice, payments arrived in smaller chunks and sometimes not at all, with Casinomeister having to chase them repeatedly before the player was paid in full.
AI-generated complaints are a new bottleneck
Casinomeister reports that fake claims and scam attempts have increased more than tenfold with the rise of AI chatbots, which can produce long, convincing complaints from scratch or inflate a real grievance. The problem mirrors a BBC report from August 2026 on AI-written complaints overwhelming UK schools and councils.
With no reliable way yet to detect this ‘flood the zone’ approach, fake claims take time away from genuine players who have been wronged by a casino.
Why casinos don’t pay
Not every blocked withdrawal is a scam. Legitimate reasons include failed KYC checks (in more than 80% of the KYC cases Casinomeister has handled, the cause was something as simple as a blurry document or a mismatched name), bonus terms breaches, and serious violations such as multiple accounts.
Then there are the excuses: terms that don’t exist or are applied retroactively, winnings paid out in small chunks in the hope that players will gamble the balance away, and outright scam sites built with cloned branding and, in some cases, games showing RTPs above 100%.
The fastest dispute is the one you never have to file
Discussing the findings of the report, Natasa Milojevic, Content Editor at Casinomeister, comments:
“No one can tell a player how long a payout dispute will take. Our records show it can be anything from 45 minutes to 20 months, and that’s largely down to the casino.
“What’s changed over the last decade is the money involved. Players aren’t just bringing us more disputes, they’re bringing us bigger ones, and the average amount we recover per case has more than doubled.
“At the same time, AI has made our job harder. Fake complaints have increased more than tenfold, and every one of them takes time away from a real player who was genuinely wronged.
“Not every blocked withdrawal means a casino is trying to scam you. Often it’s a blurry ID document or a broken bonus term. But when a casino invents rules after the fact, or drip-feeds winnings hoping the player will lose them, that’s when we step in.
“The easiest dispute to resolve is the one you never need to file. Knowing the red flags and doing a little homework before you deposit is still a player’s best protection.”

Methodology:
Casinomeister analysed internal case records from its Player Arbitration (PAB) service between 2016 and 2026, covering the number of disputes received each year and the amount recovered for players. Figures for 2018–2020 were reconstructed manually following a migration to a new case-management system and represent conservative low-end estimates. 2026 figures are year-to-date. Percentage changes compare full-year totals. Average recovery per case was calculated by dividing the annual amount recovered by the number of cases that year. Resolution times reflect the fastest and longest cases on record.
