NEW YORK, Sept. 1, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — American Tungsten & Antimony, Ltd., (ASX: AT4; OTCQX: ATALF) announced it has engaged Metso Finland Oy to complete a Scoping Study at FEL1 Concept Study level, for an ammonium paratungstate (SPT) production circuit at the Del Sol Refinery in Amargosa Valley, Nevada.
The study is to be predicated on a proposed Phase 1 design capacity of 2,500 tons per annum of Tungsten APT and will propose a pathway to a potential future Phase 2 modular expansion to 5,000 tons per annum. “Tungsten is one of the most strategic commodities for the United States,” said Casper Adson, CEO, of AT4. He noted that defense, aerospace and industrial manufacturing currently require supply chains that are offshore, a concern to national security. “Rebuilding the ability to convert tungsten concentrate into tungsten APT on domestically is a question of national interest to the U.S. government,” he said.
American Tungsten & Antimony announced its intention to acquire Del Sol, a constructed and permitted hydrometallurgical plant for antimony, in July of this year. “Putting an APT circuit inside an existing footprint rather than building on a greenfield site has the potential to materially reduce the capital required and the timetable to commence production of a domestic tungsten product,” Adson explained. He added that this capability is also one that will be attractive to U.S. government funding entities.
In July 2026, an Executive Order (#14415) was signed that requires US defense contractors and their subcontractors to source covered materials domestically or from allied nations and restricts the availability of waivers as of January 1, 2027, and further states that a contractor’s failure to qualify a domestic source will not constitute non-availability unless active and adequately funded qualification efforts are underway.
