The Fall Series opens with Tea and Trumpets, VMF’s signature intimate experience pairing an elegant afternoon tea service with live brass quintet performance. A local favorite, the event returns by popular demand for another season, hosted at the historic Pierpont Inn.
Birth of Impressionism | Thursday, October 15 | The Museum of Ventura County | 7 PM
VMF’s popular Classical Edge Concert format returns with Birth of Impressionism, an evening that is part performance, part history, and part discovery. Led by VMF Artistic Director and violinist Nuvi Mehta, the event takes audiences inside a pivotal moment in musical history, bringing the ideas and sounds of the Impressionist movement to life through storytelling and live music.
TAKE3: Where Rock Meets Bach | Friday, October 16 | Ventura Music Hall | 7 PM
On Friday, October 16, TAKE3 takes the stage at Ventura Music Hall for a genre-smashing evening that pairs the technical precision of Bach with the energy and irreverence of rock. The violin, cello, and piano trio — conservatory-trained and rock-star electrifying — has built a devoted following for performances as surprising as they are virtuosic. Michael Cleveland and Jason Carter | Saturday, October 17 | Mission Park, Ventura | 5 PM
On Saturday, October 17, VMF brings the two most decorated fiddle players in the history of the International Bluegrass Music Association to Mission Park in Ventura. Michael Cleveland, a 12-time IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year, joins 6-time winner Jason Carter for an outdoor performance that celebrates the finest traditions of American roots music in one of Ventura’s most beloved community settings. Pacific Jazz Orchestra: A Tribute to Quincy Jones | Sunday, October 18 | Rancho Campana Performing Arts Center, Camarillo | 3 PM
The Fall Series centerpiece brings Pacific Jazz Orchestra to Rancho Campana Performing Arts Center for an exploration of Quincy Jones’ masterful early work from the 1950s and 60s. Seven-time Grammy-nominated Artistic Director and conductor Chris Walden — who counts Jones himself among his mentors — leads the group’s 19-piece Big Band Ensemble through original arrangements drawn from Jones’ groundbreaking recordings, his arrangements for legendary singers including Frank Sinatra and Sarah Vaughan, and his film scoring work on landmarks such as The Pawnbroker (1964) and In the Heat of the Night (1967).
Guest vocalists Nayanna Holley and Adam “Aejaye” Jackson join for the occasion. Holley, a longtime member of the house band for NBC’s The Voice, brings extraordinary range as a performer and vocal contractor whose credits span The Color Purple, Encanto, and The Academy Awards. Jackson, a Detroit-born vocalist, songwriter, and actor, brings a soulful blend of R&B, soul, and jazz shaped by decades of collaboration with artists including Stevie Wonder, Josh Groban, Toni Braxton, and David Foster.
Pacific Jazz Orchestra has garnered critical acclaim for performances that “entertain, inspire, and enrich” (Variety). The 40-piece Los Angeles-based ensemble is recognized as the city’s first resident jazz orchestra since 2006. VMF’s 31st season closes December 15 with a special holiday concert from Chanticleer, the celebrated twelve-voice male ensemble that has sold over one million recordings and performed thousands of concerts across the globe. Named for the clear-singing rooster in Geoffrey Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales, the ensemble spans countertenor to bass and performs five centuries of choral music with breathtaking precision. The performance at Ventura Center for Spiritual Living brings the season to a warm and luminous close.
