The Movie will be released in cinemas across Hong Kong SAR and Macau SAR on June 18, 2026 followed by the Chinese Mainland on June 27, 2026.
Directed by Tin Shu Mak, the Movie features a standout cast, including Michael Ning, Pui Tung Mak, Rachel Leung, and Fish Liew, Nina Paw, and Tse Kwan Ho. Tin Shu Mak is an acclaimed screenwriter and director, a two-time winner of the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Screenplay and a recipient of the Golden Horse Award for Best Original Screenplay. As Mak Tin Shu’s debut feature film, it has already generated strong anticipation and has been selected to compete in the Asian New Talent section of the Shanghai International Film Festival.
“Dog Day Evening” is a sharp dark comedy inspired by a true story that exposes the frustrations and absurdities of modern customer service mentality. Set in a paid TV station, “Dog Day Evening” centres on an escalating confrontation triggered by a subscribing customer’s simple request to cancel the TV subscription.
The Movie highlights exaggerated situations and sharp dialogue to satirise institutional bureaucracy and the often-ridiculous administrative roadblocks set by companies to deter their customers from cancellation of service contracts.
