PharmPix President and CEO Dr. Martty Martínez Fraticelli Wins PBMI Excellence Award for Clinical Innovation

Recognition honors Martínez Fraticelli’s vision for bringing clinical intelligence into pharmacy benefit decisions before risk and cost escalate

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico, Sept. 3, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — PharmPix today announced that President and CEO Dr. Martty Martínez Fraticelli, Pharm.D., has received a 2026 PBMI Excellence Award for Clinical Innovation from the Pharmacy Benefit Management Institute (PBMI).

The recognition honors Martínez Fraticelli’s leadership in advancing a more clinically driven model of pharmacy benefit management—one built around a fundamental belief that a prescription can be processed correctly and still not be right for the person receiving it.

That belief has guided PharmPix since Martínez Fraticelli co-founded the company in 2009. Rather than treating claims adjudication as a purely administrative transaction, PharmPix has built clinical intelligence into the pharmacy benefit process so potential risks, inappropriate therapies and avoidable costs can be identified while there is still time to act.

“Clinical innovation is not innovation for its own sake,” Martínez Fraticelli said. “It’s using every tool we have—and building the ones we don’t—to notice what might otherwise be missed, protect a member from avoidable harm and protect a health plan from avoidable cost. That’s what we mean when we talk about seeing the whole pharmacy picture.”

Central to that vision is OneArk®, PharmPix’s proprietary pharmacy benefits technology platform. Developed by PharmPix pharmacists and PBM operators, OneArk brings claims adjudication, clinical intelligence, benefit configuration and real-time decision support together within a single platform.

That ownership allows PharmPix to continually build clinical logic and programs directly into the adjudication process rather than relying solely on retrospective analysis. Potential drug-related problems, including duplicate therapies, inappropriate dosing and drug interactions, can be identified at the point of sale and elevated for clinical review before a medication is dispensed.

The approach extends across PharmPix’s broader clinical strategy, including medication safety, utilization management, specialty pharmacy, biosimilar conversion, formulary oversight and targeted programs designed around emerging areas of clinical and financial risk.

For Martínez Fraticelli, the goal is not simply to generate more information. It’s to turn information into better decisions.

“The question has never been only whether a claim can be paid,” said Eric Frontera Zayas, Pharm.D., Senior Vice President of PBM Services at PharmPix. “Martty has challenged us to ask whether the therapy is safe, appropriate and delivering the right value for the member and the plan. That philosophy has shaped our technology, our clinical teams and the way PharmPix continues to grow.”

The recognition comes as the industry prepares for change. The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2026, will require PBMs to disclose significantly more about pricing, rebates and plan spending, giving employers and health plans a far more detailed view of pharmacy activity. PharmPix’s position is that disclosure is a floor, not a finish line. The harder work is turning that visibility into clinical action at the moment a prescription is filled, which is the capability this award recognizes.

Martínez Fraticelli will also speak at PBMI on September 10 about direct-to-consumer pharmacy models and emerging questions around clinical responsibility and patient safety.
