Independent Los Angeles communications firm celebrates a milestone rooted in consequential work, trusted counsel and enduring relationships

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — NLG Communications LLC, an independent public relations, public affairs and crisis management firm founded by veteran communications strategist Naomi Goldman, will mark its 18th anniversary on September 10, celebrating nearly two decades of helping organizations navigate high-stakes challenges, engage communities, safeguard reputations and advance policy, business and social impact.

For Goldman, the number 18 carries particular meaning. In Jewish tradition, 18 corresponds to chai, the Hebrew word for “life” — a fitting lens through which to reflect on the life of a firm that has evolved across clients, causes, crises and changing times while remaining grounded in trusted relationships and consequential work.

“I’ve never thought about NLG simply in terms of years in business,” said Goldman, Principal of NLG Communications. “When I think about the life of this firm, I think about the organizations and people who have trusted me, the causes and communities I’ve had the privilege to serve, the difficult moments we’ve navigated together and the relationships that have sustained NLG through every chapter. Eighteen feels particularly meaningful because chai is about life — and this work truly has become my life’s work.”

Founded on September 10, 2008, NLG Communications works at the intersection of causes, crisis and community engagement. Over the past 18 years, the firm has provided strategic communications, public affairs, crisis and reputation management, media relations, stakeholder and community engagement, leadership counsel and training, and narrative and digital communications for public agencies, nonprofits, corporations, associations and civic leaders.

NLG’s work has touched some of the most pressing issues facing California and communities nationwide, including public transit, housing and homelessness, workforce development, food insecurity, disaster preparedness and response, public health access, labor and employment, equity and civil rights, and visual effects and entertainment. Clients and organizations served during NLG’s 18-year history have included Metrolink, LA Metro, Hospitality Training Academy, Visual Effects Society, Beacon Capital Partners, Los Angeles County Homeless Initiative, Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority, California Association of Food Banks, American Red Cross and others.

The firm’s history has also been defined by long-term and returning relationships. Metrolink became NLG Communications’ first client in 2008, when Goldman was brought in to help the regional rail agency navigate a transformational life and safety crisis. Eighteen years later, Goldman is again serving as a strategic communications advisor to the agency.

“We were NLG Communications’ first client 18 years ago, when Naomi guided Metrolink through one of the most difficult crises in our history. Nearly two decades later, under different leadership and facing a new generation of challenges, we are fortunate to have her counsel again. Naomi is far more than a strategic communications advisor – she is a trusted partner who brings exceptional judgment to difficult and sensitive issues,” said Lisa Bahr, Chief Customer Experience Officer, Metrolink.

That embedded approach to client relationships also characterizes Goldman’s work with the Hospitality Training Academy (HTA), a nationally recognized nonprofit workforce development organization affiliated with UNITE HERE Local 11, that creates pathways to careers in the hospitality industry. Over more than four years, NLG’s work with HTA has spanned strategic communications, media and storytelling, public affairs, community engagement and counsel on opportunities and challenges affecting the organization’s growth and mission.

“Naomi and NLG Communications have been so much more than communications consultants to HTA -Naomi has truly become part of our team. She understands our mission, believes deeply in our work and is always thinking about the bigger picture and how communications will move HTA forward. She is incredibly responsive, results-oriented and invested in our success,” said Adine Forman, Executive Director of the Hospitality Training Academy.

Goldman’s role frequently extends beyond traditional public relations. Working alongside executive leadership, boards and internal teams, she often serves as both communications strategist and senior counselor – helping organizations anticipate challenges, clarify complex issues and determine not simply what to say, but what to do.

“Communications has changed enormously since 2008 and so has the world in which our clients operate,” Goldman said. “But the fundamentals of good counsel haven’t changed. You must understand an organization deeply – its people, mission, stakeholders, pressures and opportunities. You have to be willing to tell leaders what they need to hear, not simply what they want to hear. And when the stakes are high, you must be someone they trust to have at the table.”

As NLG Communications enters its 19th year, the firm continues to advise clients on complex communications, public affairs, reputation and crisis issues while developing new partnerships and engagements across sectors.

“A business anniversary is ostensibly about longevity, but for me, this one is really about relationships,” Goldman said. “I’m enormously grateful to the clients, colleagues, collaborators and friends who have trusted me and NLG over these 18 years. I still love the work, I still care enormously about the people and causes behind it, and I’m excited about what comes next.”
