Award recognizes a two-decade partnership rooted in family ranchers and quality that gives franchise owners a premium advantage

GREENVILLE, S.C., Oct. 7, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — New York Butcher Shoppe, the neighborhood butcher and specialty market known for its Certified Angus Beef® steaks, fine wines, and chef-crafted meals, has been named the 2026 Retail Rising Star by the Certified Angus Beef® brand. The award was presented Sept. 11 during the brand’s Annual Conference, held Sept. 9-11 at the JW Marriott Marco Island in Marco Island, Florida.

New York Butcher Shoppe CEO Jim Tindal (center right) and Casey Cooley, EVP and President of Foundry Development at The Foundry Group (center left), accept the 2026 Retail Rising Star award from the Certified Angus Beef® brand at the brand's Annual Conference in Marco Island, Fla.

The award honors retailers that bring strong energy to the brand through promotions, value-added products, team education, and correct trademark use. New York Butcher Shoppe joined a class of retail honorees that included Schnuck Markets and ShopRite. The award is the latest milestone in a partnership that began in 2003. New York Butcher Shoppe was also named Specialty Store Marketer of the Year in 2021, and in December 2024 it passed 1 million pounds of Certified Angus Beef® products purchased.

At the heart of the partnership is a shared respect for the people who raise the beef. The Certified Angus Beef® brand was started by family farmers and ranchers, and they still lead it today. The brand works with a network of small family farms and ranches across North America that care for their cattle and their land. New York Butcher Shoppe brings that story to the counter. Every store features custom signage highlighting a local ranch partner, so shoppers know where their beef begins.

“Our customers want to know where their food comes from, and we’re proud to tell them,” said Jim Tindal, CEO of New York Butcher Shoppe. “Every steak we sell starts with a family rancher who takes pride in doing things the right way. That’s the same care our butchers bring to every cut, and it’s a big part of why this partnership has lasted more than 20 years.”

The brand cited New York Butcher Shoppe’s investment in education as one reason for the award. New owners and general managers train at the brand’s Culinary Center in Wooster, Ohio, and complete the company’s own branded beef program. The company also runs creative marketing, including digital campaigns, rancher storytelling, Wine Bar menu features, and grand opening promotions. It ranked as the brand’s No. 1 seller of meat thermometers last year, with more than 1,500 sold.

“New York Butcher Shoppe is investing in its people and finding creative ways to bring the brand to life for customers in every new community it enters,” said David O’Daim, Vice President of Retail at Certified Angus Beef®. “Their growth, enthusiasm, and commitment to sharing the Certified Angus Beef story make them a standout partner and a very deserving winner.”

For prospective franchisees, the partnership offers something hard to build alone: a premium product with an authentic farm-to-counter story behind it. The brand holds cuts to 10 quality standards, and only about 4 in 10 Angus cattle qualify. Owners also get training and marketing support to launch strong in new markets.

“Our partnership with the Certified Angus Beef brand is a real differentiator,” said Joseph Giordano, VP of Corporate & Franchise Development at New York Butcher Shoppe. “Franchise owners get a product customers already trust, the support to hit the ground running, and a story about family ranchers that connects with their community.

New York Butcher Shoppe currently operates 43 locations across 10 states and is on track to surpass 50 by the end of 2027, supported by its strategic investment partnership with The Foundry Group. Recent development agreements are bringing the brand to new communities in Metro Atlanta, Alabama, Missouri, Virginia, and Maryland. For franchise information, visit www.nybutcher.com/franchise.
