NEW YORK, Sept. 10, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Korean Cultural Center New York (KCCNY), a branch of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea, will present the North American premiere of Yunie’s Magical Adventure: A Musical Dreamscape for the Whole Family for two performances on Friday, September 25 at 6 PM and Saturday, September 26 at 4 PM at the theater of the Korean Cultural Center New York as part of the “KCCNY Curates” series. Co-presented by KCCNY and MIRI Opera, the imaginative family music theater production blends live music, multimedia storytelling, and participatory play to create an engaging and interactive experience for young audiences and families.

Main Poster - Yunie’s Magical Adventure

Timed around Chuseok, often described as Korean Thanksgiving and one of Korea’s most important traditional holidays, the production brings beloved Korean children’s songs and traditional games to life through the vibrant sounds of Western classical and Korean traditional music. Through music, movement, and imaginative play, the performance celebrates the spirit of togetherness and shared memories while offering children and families a joyful introduction to Korean culture.

The story follows Yunie, a curious young girl who travels with her family to Grandma’s house for Chuseok. While the adults are busy preparing the holiday feast, Yunie finds herself without anyone her age to play with. Just as she begins to feel lonely and sleepy, something extraordinary happens: tofu and bean sprouts come to life and become her new friends. Together, they enter a magical world filled with music, games, friendship, and unexpected discoveries.

Featuring a live chamber orchestra (New York Classical Players), colorful visuals, animation, and interactive storytelling, Yunie’s Magical Adventure introduces audiences to some of Korea’s most beloved traditional songs and games, including Kkomaya Kkomaya (Little Child), Mugunghwa Flower Has Bloomed (Korean Red Light, Green Light), Dong Dong Dongdaemun (Gate Game), Toad, Toad (Sandcastle Game), Hide-and-Seek, and Ganggangsullae (Circle Dance).

At its heart, Yunie’s Magical Adventure explores universal themes of family, friendship, imagination, and belonging, creating a playful space where young audiences can discover Korean traditions while sharing the joy of music and play together.

Admission is free and open to the public, but pre-registration is required.

Synopsis

With Chuseok, one of Korea’s most important traditional holidays, just around the corner, Yunie’s family is busy shopping in a bustling marketplace. It is a cherished Korean tradition to make wishes under the full moon during Chuseok—but oh no, it’s raining! Will Yunie and her family be able to see the full moon on Chuseok night?

On the morning of their trip to Grandma’s house, cheerful Yunie sets off hand in hand with her loving mom and dad. But once they arrive, all the adults are busy preparing the holiday feast. With no other children her age around, Yunie begins to feel lonely and bored—and maybe even a little sleepy. Then, just as she is about to drift off, something extraordinary happens. Yunie’s eyes open wide as a magical world begins to unfold before her!
