iPhone users reported significant gains in eye comfort – and preferred Eyesafe® CPF70 Technology nearly 6-to-1 over the baseline solution

MINNEAPOLIS, Sept. 9, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — For the millions of consumers who will upgrade to the iPhone lineup Apple announced today, a new patient study with iPhone users points to a simple, always-on step for more comfortable screen time: Eyesafe CPF70 Technology. Eyesafe®, the global leader in screen health, today released a white paper detailing results of a patient survey study conducted with Southwest Eye Care, a leading eye clinic. Full results: eyesafe.com/iphone-eye-comfort-study.

Eyesafe Inc. is the world leader in light management across consumer electronics display, technology, accessories, standards, certification, and eyewear solutions.

In the two-period study, 29 adult iPhone users – each using their phone at least two hours daily — used a standard clear screen protector for two weeks, then a protector with Eyesafe CPF70 Technology for two weeks, completing identical surveys after each period. Key findings:

  • Participants preferred CPF70 nearly 6-to-1 (62% vs. 10%; 28% expressed no preference).
  • Reported eye strain declined 31% (p = 0.001); the share experiencing frequent eye strain fell from 45% to 10%.
  • Overall symptom frequency across eight categories declined 17% (p = 0.002).
  • Self-reported sleep quality improved 10% (p = 0.013); “good” or “very good” ratings rose from 48% to 72%.

Participants disabled True Tone and Night Shift throughout — meaning improvements were reported from the physical filter alone, without software color adjustment and without the amber shift of built-in night modes.

“Every new iPhone means more hours of screen time. This study shows people can feel the difference when protection is built into the screen itself — reported comfort improved, sleep ratings improved, and participants preferred it nearly six to one, all without compromising the color experience the iPhone is known for,” said Justin Barrett, Founder and CEO, Eyesafe.

Eyesafe CPF70 Technology is available in screen protection products, including from ZAGG, a global leader in mobile accessories.

The study was self-reported, unblinded, and fixed-sequence; findings are perception and preference outcomes, not results of a controlled clinical trial. Full methods, results, and limitations are in the white paper.
