FAIR Health Launches Free Epidemiological Reporting Platform That Visualizes Data on 45 Chronic Diseases
NEW YORK, Oct. 29, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Today, FAIR Health launches FAIR Health Atlas, a free epidemiological reporting platform incorporating data on the commercially insured population. Atlas is an online tool that can provide insights to policy makers, researchers and others wishing to understand chronic disease prevalence trends and geographic variation over time. Drawing on FAIR Health’s repository of commercial healthcare claims (the nation’s largest), Atlas visualizes chronic disease data across all 50 states and Washington, DC, revealing the areas facing the greatest health challenges. It also includes relevant social determinants of health (SDOH) that influence the risk factors for these diseases.
Atlas displays trends and clusters in chronic disease prevalence and SDOH. The data are displayed in interactive heat maps of the United States—where darker shades represent higher disease prevalence. Users can select from 45 chronic conditions, as defined by the Chronic Conditions Data Warehouse, and from 32 measures of SDOH, the data for which were obtained from the American Community Survey. The data are available for each year from 2020 to 2025. Once a condition and year have been selected, users can view the prevalence measures by state or county. Clicking on a location on the map reveals the prevalence of that condition per 100,000 commercially insured members in a given year.
FAIR Health estimates the prevalence of chronic conditions by counting the number of commercially insured individuals in the database who have a claim containing a chronic condition diagnosis code. US census data are used to weight those results, adjusting the counts included in the data to reflect the entire commercially insured population.
Earlier this year, FAIR Health published a white paper based on Atlas in its development phase. Chronic Conditions in the United States: A Study of Commercial Claims investigated chronic condition prevalence, co-occurring conditions, costs, geography and correlation of prevalence rates to the poverty rate in 2024.
In addition, our article, A New Source of Data to Inform Policy on Chronic Diseases, published in Frontiers in Public Health describes Atlas and how it may help guide policy decisions.
To share more about Atlas, on Thursday, November 12, FAIR Health President Ray Campbell will host a webinar entitled “Demonstration of FAIR Health Atlas: A Platform to Visualize Chronic Disease Data.” Register for the webinar here.
