Financial Recovery Strategies and ProfitTrust Partner to Launch Duty Discovery, Bringing AI-Powered Customs Duty Recovery to Importers Nationwide

New technology partnership pairs FRS’s recovery expertise with ProfitTrust’s automated audit platform to help importers recover overpaid U.S. customs duties — with zero upfront cost.

ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, N.J., Sept. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Financial Recovery Strategies (FRS), a national leader in class action and unclaimed property recovery services, today announced a strategic partnership with ProfitTrust to launch Duty Discovery, the only AI-driven audit platform in existence today that identifies and recovers overpaid U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) duties on behalf of importers of record – not to be confused with the IEEPA Tariff Refunds.

The partnership brings together FRS’s decades of experience helping corporations recover funds owed to them and ProfitTrust’s automated parcel, audit and recovery technology, already used to reclaim shipping refunds for major retailers and manufacturers. Duty Discovery extends that same performance-based, technology-driven model to the customs space, analyzing historical import entries for Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS) classification errors, country-of-origin issues, and tens of thousands of other variables and discrepancies that result in duty overpayments.

Industry estimates suggest U.S. importers overpay more than $5.8 billion in duties annually, with errors present in roughly one in eight entries. Duty Discovery allows companies to recover eligible overpayments for up to 300 days by filing Post Summary Corrections (PSC’s) with the CBP, at no upfront cost, since FRS and ProfitTrust are paid only after a client receives its refund.

“Partnering with the ProfitTrust team on Duty Discovery is a natural fit for the FRS mission to help, save and recover money for our clients,” said Michael Epstein, Founder and CEO of FRS. “This is first-to-market AI technology that didn’t exist until now, and we’re excited to bring this to our clients and the market in mass. We’re already seeing incredible results with a handful of our Fortune-sized clients that we’ve already onboarded for Duty Discovery.”

“FRS has spent years building trust with our clients as the recovery partner they turn to when money is owed to them and no one else is looking for it,” said Harris Love, Chief Relationship Officer at FRS. “Duty Discovery lets us bring that same commitment into the customs arena. ProfitTrust’s technology does the heavy lifting, by optimizing the HTS codes, and our clients get to recover money that they didn’t know was available to them.”

“We built ProfitTrust to prove that recovery work doesn’t have to mean manual reviews and guesswork,” said Ben Richman, CEO and Founder of ProfitTrust. “Partnering with FRS lets us put that technology in front of a much broader base of importers, backed by a team that already has the relationships and credibility to make this an easy yes for clients. This is exactly the kind of partnership that scales fast because both sides bring something the other doesn’t have.”

“I spent more than 30 years at CBP, including leading the agency’s modernization of its Automated Commercial Environment and its Partner Government Agency Single Window, so I know exactly how much revenue gets left on the table through avoidable classification errors,” said Vincent Annunziato, Senior Vice President at ProfitTrust. “Duty Discovery applies that same discipline from the inside of CBP, at scale, so importers can finally see what they’re owed and recover it the right way.”

Duty Discovery requires only a sample of entry summary packets to begin – typically 20 to 40 documents already generated by a company’s customs broker – and returns a written findings assessment at no cost. Clients that choose to move forward pay nothing unless a recovery is made, and refunds are issued directly from CBP.

Duty Discovery’s approach is shaped in part by Mr. Annunziato’s experience, which included leading the agency’s rollout of the Partner Government Agency Single Window within the Automated Commercial Environment (ACE) – a modernization effort credited with billions of dollars in cost savings and millions of hours in reduced trade processing time.

The Duty Discovery partnership builds on FRS and ProfitTrust’s existing collaboration on automated small parcel shipping refund recovery and reflects a broader push by both companies to expand each other’s technology-driven recovery services across new categories of corporate overpayment.
