CINCINNATI, Sept. 14, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR), America’s Grocer, is helping customers eat healthier in the last few weeks of summer.

Peak-season fruits and vegetables are fresher, more flavorful and more nutritious. When produce is harvested at the height of its season, it retains more of its natural vitamins, minerals and fiber than when it is picked early and transported long distances. And Kroger is making it more affordable to enjoy these nutrient-dense foods with $5 off a $20 produce purchase.

What Kroger dietitians are recommending right now
“The best thing about eating well in August and September is that the most nutritious foods are also the most delicious ones,” said Laura Brown, MS, RD, LDN, director of nutrition at Kroger. “Peak-season produce is naturally higher in fiber, vitamins and antioxidants – and because it’s so fresh, it’s easy to enjoy.”

Here are a few things shoppers should keep in mind when looking for the perfect fresh produce for them in August and September:

  • Berries: Among the highest antioxidant foods available and a good source of fiber
  • Corn: A whole grain that provides fiber, B vitamins and carbohydrates for energy
  • Peaches: A good source of vitamins A and C, fiber, and water
  • Peppers: Exceptionally high in vitamin C, versatile and naturally filling
  • Tomatoes: Rich in lycopene, vitamin C and potassium
  • Watermelon: Naturally hydrating and a good source of lycopene and citrulline
  • Zucchini: High in water content and a good source of potassium and several B vitamins

For customers focused on higher-protein and lower processed food diets, peak-season produce is a natural foundation for building great meals. Fiber-rich vegetables and fruits support digestive health and nutritional balance, and they pair well with lean proteins and whole grains for complete, satisfying meals.

Kroger dietitians are available through convenient virtual appointments to help customers build meals, navigate nutrition labels and make the most of what’s in season all year long. Customers can learn more or book an appointment at Kroger.com/Health.

Save more at Kroger
Customers can redeem a $5 off $20 produce purchase in store or through the Kroger app. To claim the offer, customers can tap the Kroger app, clip the digital coupon and shop any fresh department at their local Kroger Family of Companies location.

No matter how customers shop, Kroger makes it easy. Customers can get these deals and more in store or Kroger.com offering the same fresh items at the same low prices for pickup at a convenient store location or delivery in as little as 30 minutes. For even more convenience, Kroger’s full product assortment is available on demand at DoorDash and Uber Eats marketplaces, shopped from local stores and delivered directly to customers’ doors.
