New citation-ranked reports show supplier competition widening and tools for cancer research and CRISPR gaining ground.
BATH, England, Oct. 6, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Today, CiteAb released its annual Top 100 Reports, covering the most-cited Research Antibodies, Proteins, Kits & Assays, Cell Lines, Bioactive Small Molecules, and Instruments in life science research, and the suppliers behind them.
CiteAb’s analysis is drawn directly from the peer-reviewed scientific literature, identifying which products researchers use most in published work.
Key findings:
A widening field of suppliers
- 15 suppliers featured in the Bioactive Small Molecules Top 100, 13 in Antibodies, and 22 in Kits (all up from last year)
- 24 suppliers rank in the newly launched Instruments report – with Waters Biosciences (formerly BD Biosciences) and ZEISS seeing the most instruments in the Top 100
These numbers point to an increasingly competitive landscape.
Established products hold firm, while new tools break through
Long-standing category leaders – including QIAGEN’s RNeasy Mini Kit, Cell Signaling Technology’s Anti-rabbit IgG HRP-linked antibody, and the HEK293 cell line group – retained their rankings.
14 new products entered the Kits & Assays Top 100, and Proteintech’s HRP-conjugated Goat Anti-Rabbit IgG(H+L) moved into the Top 10 Antibody rankings, showing that even mature markets have room for products to break through.
Plus, gene editing tool Alt-R S.p. Cas9 Nuclease VS3 from Integrated DNA Technologies featured in the Top 100 proteins, cancer therapy compounds used as research tools topped the bioactive dataset, and cancer-related cell lines entered the Top 100.
Dr Andrew Chalmers, CEO of CiteAb, commented: “Our database gives a unique view of the market: citations provide a leading indicator of product sales as well as a marker of past ones. The Top 100 reports reveal the vendors and products contributing to a significant amount of published research and helping researchers.”
For suppliers, investors and researchers, the Top 100 reports give a deeper understanding of where demand is building in the life science research market.
