LOS ANGELES, Oct. 15, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Today Youth for Human Rights International and United for Human Rights launched a worldwide call to action for Human Rights Day, 10 December 2026, with a goal of 500 events in 78 countries taking place on and around the date. The campaign marks two milestones: the 78th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on 10 December 1948, and the 25th anniversary of Youth for Human Rights International.

Campaign for 10 December honors the 78th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and 25 years of Youth for Human Rights International; organizers invite chapters, educators and advocates to share their plans now and receive a free event toolkit.

A worldwide call to action: 500 events in 78 countries to mark Human Rights Day 2026 and the Declaration’s 78th year.

United for Human Rights and its youth component, Youth for Human Rights International are mobilizing chapters, educators, volunteers and human rights advocates on every continent to bring the Declaration’s 30 articles to their own communities. Planned activities include human rights marches and peace walks, petition drives, seminars, concerts, art exhibitions and school programs. Any individual, school, club, business or nonprofit can take part.

How to take part

Organizers who have already planned an event, or who have an idea they would like to bring to life, are invited to share their Human Rights Day plans with the campaign at activities@humanrights.com. Everyone who submits plans will receive the Human Rights Day online toolkit, with step-by-step guides for organizing a successful activity, and can request free human rights educational materials for their event.

The organizations are encouraging participants to be creative. Suggested formats include:

  • A human rights march or peace walk through a town or city
  • A petition drive calling for action on a local or global human rights issue
  • A seminar, panel or workshop for students, professionals or community groups
  • A concert, film screening or art exhibition built around the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration
  • A classroom lesson or school-wide activity teaching young people their rights

The campaign runs through December and awareness activities can be held on or around Human Rights Day which is on 10 December 2026. Updates and participating events will be shared on the organizations’ websites and social media channels throughout the campaign.
