Unions, Supervisors Demand Answers After Power Outage Fiasco
(SAN FRANCISCO) – Teamsters will be joined by members of the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF), and the San Francisco Board of Supervisors for a rally to demand accountability from Waymo on Monday, March 2, at 12:30 p.m. The rally for good jobs and safe streets will be ahead of a hearing in the Land Use and Transportation Committee, where Waymo representatives will be compelled to testify regarding massive operational failures following a widespread power outage last December.
During the crisis, Waymo vehicles froze in place, causing traffic jams and exacerbating public safety threats. The robotaxis even blocked first responders and delayed responses to the electrical substation fire that caused the initial outage. It’s the latest of many fiascos the robotaxi company has caused as it wages war on public safety and California’s middle class.
