Huddersfield based Shepley Spring transforms efficiency and improves safety with the support of improved factory access
Shepley Spring is the UK’s leading bottled water supplier, renowned for its eco-friendly production and light-weight recyclable bottles.
With a pedigree stretching back more than two decades, the company fills up to 2.6 million bottles per day across its HQ in Huddersfield and newly acquired site in Harrogate. It supplies major retailers across the UK with own-label products and consumer brands including Ice Valley & White Rock.
After more than £1million of investment in 2024 across infrastructure, transport and IT, Shepley have once again chosen to improve their Huddersfield production facility with a focus on efficient access solutions and safety.
They appointed Tadweld, the UK’s expert steelwork and safe access supplier to complete a series of bespoke solutions and structural steel modifications, including staircases, platforms and conveyor crossovers at their 16,000 sqft factory.
Tadweld addressed complex challenges at the facility including operating in highly confined and irregular spaces, such as inside a conveyor loop and adapting the existing structure to include cutting and relocating overhanging steel supports to accommodate new platforms.
Aarron Mitchell, Factory Manager at Shepley Spring, reflected on the project:
“Tadweld delivered excellent results on our most recent project – the team were professional, efficient, and ensured the work met a high standard throughout, despite all the special constraints on our site. For us, the fabrication and installation of the mezzanines, staircases and cross-over points have been a transformation of how we approach our day-to-day operations.”
He adds:
“The access significantly reduces the footprint of the production lines for our team to carry out their work efficiently and safely while adding value and solutions in areas that were challenging or not possible. With this in place we have seen improvement in up-time and running conditions of the lines. We want to thank Tadweld for being such a trusted partner and the operational changes they have been able to make for us.”
Chris Houston, Managing Director at Tadweld, added:
“We’re delighted to have partnered with Shepley Spring on this project. As two Yorkshire-based businesses deeply invested in safety and sustainability, it was great to work with like-minded colleagues to deliver a solution tailored to them. By improving both safety and efficiency, we’re proud to support their continued success and growth.”
The outcome of this collaboration has been transformative for Shepley Spring’s operations and means a huge improvement in access and safety for workers. The new platforms and staircases give permanent safe access to previously unreachable sections of the site, reducing risk for maintenance and operations teams.
